Summer Walker Rebrand
Summer Walker is coming into the new year with a new look for her fans. I was given the task to create this new look. Her new look is inspired by none other than the talented Ms. Erykah Badu and her previous EP, Life On Earth. I took this new look in a new direction to display Summer Walker’s thoughts and experience with being a woman. There are various perceptions of the minds, bodies, and souls of women. Women in the stereotypical system are supposed to act and dress like a lady. Such behaviors have been seen to be programmed into the persona of a woman. Women can be figuratively seen as robots, which perform jobs that they are programmed to execute. They are also created and expected to look a certain way. But, when there is a difference or unusual occurrence that the robot performs, many see the occurrence as a “glitch”. A “glitch” on this occasion represents a woman stepping out of the system and following in her footsteps to show the world who she is. A woman is in control of how she wants to look, think, and speak. When women are seen participating or engaging in activities that are out of the norm, they are looked down upon by the systematic society. On many occasions, women will endure a paradox, a feeling of being too real and not enough. Summer Walker portrays this perception of womanhood in a majority patriarchal system through her experience, growth, and success as a robot who glitches. This new look is a representation of self-appreciation, self-love, and freedom.
